It’s much easier to clean your jewellery at home than you might think. Here are some simple tips to make your jewellery look like new.
Silver polish is the best way to remove stains and prevent them from tarnishing. Silver-cleaning wipes are a better alternative to liquid polishes, which can be messy, especially when you’re in a rush. A multi-layer fabric with a specially treated side that removes stains, and a second side to shine is an excellent choice.
Try one of these DIY methods if you do not have any silver polish on hand, but you need to clean your silver as soon as possible. Avoid rubbing silver-plated jewellery too much to prevent it from fading.
Dish soap is the best way to remove stains from silver. Mix a few drops with warm water. Use a soft, clean cloth to rub the silver stain with the solution. Rinse the silver with cold water, and then dry it with a soft cloth.
Baking soda can be used to remove heavier stains. Mix three parts baking soda with one part water. Apply the paste to the silver with a soft, moist cloth. Rotate the fabric and work into the cracks when removing the stain. Rinse and then dry.
Toothpaste – The same light abrasives that are used to remove stains on your teeth can be used to remove stains on silver. Apply a small amount of toothpaste (not gel or white paste) to the silver stain and gently rub with your fingers or a soft towel. After rinsing with warm water, clean the silver with a soft rag. Alternatively, consider the convenience of using a Large Ultrasonic Cleaner for cleaning. Visit Hill Sonic for more.
How to clean gold
A few drops of dish detergent and warm water will gently clean a gold bracelet, a chain and earrings. Place a small piece in a filter and then place it into the solution. Large pieces can be placed directly into the bowl for five minutes. Remove the items, shake them around and then place them on a spongy cloth. Use a soft toothbrush and cracks or chains to remove the dirt. Then, return the small pieces back to the filter. Rinse them with water. To dry, use a soft towel.
How to clean gemstones
You can easily restore the lustre to precious and semiprecious stones such as rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds. Use the same method as above, but mix bicarbonate of soda with plain water instead. The carbonation loosens soil and helps remove debris stuck in the setting or on the surface.
Then, rinse the stones with clear water or in a filter. Dry the stone and enjoy its sparkle.
