Six skills need to be improve for effective leadership

You don’t necessarily have to have a great team to be considered a leader and therefore need some important qualities or skills to be able to express effective leadership.

Research shows that transformational leaders, those with positive attitudes, who equip and develop followers / collaborators, are the best leaders.

They are more appreciated by collaborators and have better performing teams.

For this reason, if you only commit yourself to improving your leadership skills, you will be able to appreciate the benefits in your goals and OKRs.

Here is a list of the most important qualities / skills you can practice to be able to express yourself to the fullest.

1 – Keep a positive attitude

No one respects a sullen or negative person.

With a positive attitude, you are looking for the positive side of life and things and people will be naturally attracted to you.

A positive attitude does not mean rejecting reality, but finding the best even in the worst situations.

I’ll tell you a little secret that serves as a wake-up call on your attitude: if you see that people are moving in the opposite direction to what you tell them, then you have an attitude problem!

2 – Motivate others towards excellence

Many of the greatest leaders in history have admitted that they have risen high, because another leader has recognized their potential and pushed him towards excellence.

A good leader knows how to bring people to excellence and make them go beyond the average OKR.

Motivating for excellence means pushing people to go beyond the average and get the most out of their talent.

3 – Improve communication skills

Every person, in everything or action he or she does, always communicates something to someone, unless he or she is alone.

You can’t not communicate, even when you do nothing.

Regardless of whether it is business, politics, sport, art, teaching, entertainment, you always communicate something. Doing it well is fundamental to succeeding in the intentions you set yourself.

To get the most out of your leadership, therefore, an important skill to improve is knowing how to communicate to others clearly. This also includes the ability to listen to what others are consciously or unconsciously communicating to you.

To become an effective leader, you will need to continue to strive to improve your verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Furthermore, if you want your team or organization to achieve maximum results, you will have to work to improve communication between the members and plan your work with OKR Software.

4 – Set final objectives and commit to achieving them

Pursuing a vision and achieving goals is not something that happens during one night’s time, but involves a lot of effort along the way.

You need to know well what your destination should be before you can outline a plan to get there, but then you have to work hard to get the plan done.

Commitment not only helps you to pursue your vision, but also encourages others to join the process to achieve the goals.

If you want to be an effective person, you must be committed, because your true commitment shows that you are convinced, creates inspiration and attracts people to you.

5 – Be willing to admit mistakes and weaknesses and learn from them

Let’s face it: no one is perfect, and everyone has made a mistake or more in their lives!

The most successful leaders know that the key to success is not to avoid falling, but to learn from your mistakes.

If you are a strong leader, you will also be able to communicate your weaknesses to your team, so that together you can name a person who excels in that particular task or activity.

Even if mistakes offer great opportunities for growth, it will be crucial at least not to repeat them!

6 – Continue to educate and improve yourself

Great leaders demonstrate many qualities and abilities that ensure effective leadership, but above all, they continue to improve themselves in every way possible.

They are very keen on improving skills, competences, knowledge and do it in two complementary ways:

  • They are constantly learning, because they understand that in a rapidly evolving world, the key to success is not only what we already know, but also how quickly we learn, keeping up;
  • They are constantly improving, because they understand that personal and group success is not just pursuing perfection, but a process of continuous improvement over time.

Even if you are an expert, you always have a lot to learn. Never stop learning. Be receptive to perceptions and information from around the world and from all people.
